Flying In
We welcome pilots to fly in to Ardmore for the weekend. Whilst we wish to encourage as many people to fly in, please make sure that you are comfortable with the weather conditions before you launch. Ardmore is 20mins from Auckland international, and if you have doubts, do consider a commercial flight or coming by road.
Ardmore is in an MBZ ;118.1; AWIB and special info on 121.0 Position reports every 5 mins. Ardmore has a Unicom information service; it is not a control tower and does not issue instructions, merely advisory information. They are aware there will be many "itinerant" aircraft coming in for the weekend, and will be happy to help. If you are not sure...ask!
Procedures for flying into Ardmore are unchanged for the event. For those who are unfamiliar with the area, an extremely useful publication is the CAA guide, in, out, and around Auckland. You can download and print it out from their website. ...follow…. safety information….publications…good aviation practice booklets. Ardmore is a busy uncontrolled airfield and there are fixed routes in and out of the field.
If you are a visitor and require parking for the day or weekend, "itinerant" aircraft parking will be on a large grass area to the South East of Runway 03/21. It is accessed via the taxiway that runs parallel to the runway on the south East side. It is located at the 03 threshold end off Taxiway S, and between Exits D and E (Ardmore Flying School and Ardmore helicopters.) The parking will be signposted from the runway turns offs, and there will be Marshalls at the parking itself. Recommended runway exits are, if runway 21 is in use ,D and E, If 03 is in use, B and A.
With respect to charges, Ardmore airport has wished to offer visitors to the show a concession. It is very difficult administratively to offer a reduced landing fee or a reduced parking fee. Thus Ardmore Airport has agreed to charge visitors no parking fee for the weekend, and just the standard landing fee. PilotExpo is grateful to them for this.
In order to help us to give visitors some idea of when its going to be busy, we would appreciate it is you would fill in the following form. We shall publish on the website the information which will hopefully help with self regulation, as we hope that people who decide to come will plan their arrival and departures to avoid times that are already looking very busy.
We will continue to update the information here as and when relevant. Please don’t forget to check the Notams nearer the time for information of a more formal nature. Thanks for your help and co-operation and we look forward to seeing you.
