The seminar described the parts and function of Rotax engines as well as some useful hints and ideas on servicing and repairs. Questions from the floor were be most welcome.


Gretchen Jahn

With a broad understanding of international GA - Gretchen presented her thoughts on NZ GA from a "foreign resident" point of view. Where NZ GA currently is at , where it is going and where Gretchen thinks it should be going. Grechen will have recently returned from the GAMA (GA manufacturers) "summit" in Europe, and with one of the worst economic climates for decades staring us in the face, will discuss the thoughts of that group for the future.


Ruth Presland - U Fly Wanaka

Ruth presented her seminar on 'Mountain Flying in Southern NZ' It will covered the basics of how to go about flying in our Mountains safety. How to prepare before a flight, how to search for weather information, assessing weather during the flight, situational awareness: What it is and how to keep up with your aeroplane. Information will include identifying wind direction and currents, strip landings, valley flying, ridge crossing and how to stay alive.


Chris Evans CEO Hamilton Aero Maintenance Ltd

  • Subject: changes of rules to CAA rules part 43.

A presentation covering last year's changes to Maintenance Rules and it's effect in owner/ operators in GA and the roles and responsibilities of the Maintenance Organisation and the Owner in the correct maintenance of their aircraft.

Murray discussed ideas on how we all may consider mentoring new and potential aviators to the Industry. We have all talked about the "greying" not only of the pilot population, but of our maintenance Engineers too. His focus was on how we may help those aspiring to enter General Aviation through the maze to secure good employment and to extend boundaries.
